God whispers in weakness

I received an email from a dear soul today whose daughter was recently diagnosed with fragile x syndrome. It has obviously altered their intended path in life.

We too had our paths altered when our precious son was diagnosed on the autistic spectrum 8 years ago. It seems to me that special needs moms often have an undercurrent of ache that runs through their souls. Sometimes it's soft, other times is crashes in on them and takes their breath away.

I remember reading a biography of Mother Teresa where she talked about how God's voice was in the weak cry of the baby that led her to found her first orphanage. I thought to myself, "God whispers to us through weakness." Sometimes that weakness has been my own, sometimes that of my children. Always though it leads me into deeper dependence and, consequently, greater spiritual health.

Alicia,
It seems that everytime I read your writing I hear the voice of God for me. When I clicked onto your devotional it brought me to your 8 quotes and one of them about love and discipline spoke directly to what I had been reading and praying about this morning.

Your voice is a gentle whisper among the cacophony of daily demands upon our lives. So many voices, so many directions, so much confusion and then His voice cuts through your whisper as a breath of fresh air. I’m refocused and centered on what matters most – Christ in and through me first and foremost. Thank you for sharing life together with Christ.

PS. Is there a way to get a copy of your quotes?

I've said it before, but it's worth repeating, and we all need a little encouragment from time to time.

You make me want to be a better thinker. A better writer. A better person.

Thank you for your worthy words.

Alicia,
Just had to pop over after reading your post at CWO. Also, I just finished listening to your "9 Woes" talk. I am a bit speechless and am having trouble describing how that word has created a shift in my spirit. I can't stop reading the notes that I took while listening and am anxious for my teens (4 of them) to hear this message. I will be revisiting that message as well as your other ones.
Thank you for delivering what was obviously a difficult word (9 Woes). I feel like I have heard a very important word from God Himself. You are a blessing.

Darnelle

BTW-Awesome word at CWO today. Welcome! I hope you return.

I came over from CWO this morning. "God whispers to us through weakness." Oh, how I fail to listen when I feel weak, insecure, unsure, etc. and only seem to look when I sense things are good or am feeling strong in my faith at the moment. I want to hear in my weakness, which is most days.
Beautiful Alicia...I am glad I stopped by.
